SamoyedMoms at Virginia’s Douthat State Park (June-July, 2011)

Blaze & Sarge = red & orange life jackets, Rigel = redHarry & Irish = green, Gidget = no life jacket

As with so many of Virginia’s state parks, Douthat visitors have the options of dog-friendly campgrounds and dog-friendly cabins.

June 5-11, 2011:

On this visit, Harry/IrishMom stayed in Cabin #5 (a 1-bedroom log cabin built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps) and DaffyMom stayed in Cabin #6 (an efficiency cabin, also of 1935 CCC vintage).  All cabins have A/C, fireplaces, fully-equipped kitchens, bath/shower, etcetera.

GidgMom had campsite #11 in Douthat’s “Lakeside Campground A” -- where she parked her green “teardrop trailer” and where RigelMom slept in a tent.  The campsite also easily accommodated three vehicles so was a handy base for boating and lounging by the lake.   Lakeside Campground A is extremely popular and contains only 19 campsites.  It is nearly always full on summer weekends so book early.

The large blue tent is the 12’ x 12’ “Eureka Northern Breeze” screen room which is a port in any storm (we had just one significant thunderstorm during the week) and great for storing gear out of sight.

July 16-22, 2011

Gidget, Harry and Irish returned to Douthat for nearly a week.  This time Harry and Irish had log cabin #24 and Gidget had campsite #17.  Another great week!
